The Maltese are friendly, alert with colorations of White, slight lemon markings on ears are permissibly, with a long straight coat of silky texture. They are known to NOT tolerate young children; but excellent in obedience and problem solving. The Maltese are small and quiet as well as love to socialize. Extensive coat care is needed for the Maltese and special attention to keep the eyes clean as staining is possible. They enjoy a walk or a run in the park. Lifespan is considered to average between 9 - 11 years. Country of Origin: Malta History: The Maltese origins come from Malta dating back to about 1500 B.C. Their popularity rose during the reign of Queen Elizabeth as a companion to the women of the royal court. The Maltese is featured in many famous paintings; and first appeared in the United States in 1877.
